π§ 1st Shift Tooling Technician
π Position Summary
The Tooling Technician fully supports the stamping department by maintaining all stamping tooling in a production-ready condition. This role focuses on troubleshooting tooling and process issues, supporting new tooling builds, and assisting with preventative maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives. Close collaboration with Toolmakers, Engineering, Quality, and Production is essential to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality stamped part manufacturing.
π οΈ Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- π© Maintain all stamping tooling in a ready-to-run condition
- π§ Troubleshoot tooling and process issues related to stamped part production
- π Train with Stamping Toolmaker to build tooling to print, including dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges
- ποΈ Document all changes to production tooling
- βοΈ Apply machining knowledge to determine tooling requirements and operation sequences
- βΆοΈ Set up, start, and adjust machines and tooling to meet part and quality specifications
- π Identify, analyze, and resolve process issues to improve efficiency and workflow
- π§° Assist in developing and implementing preventative maintenance procedures
- π§βπ Perform die maintenance, machine troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment
- π Operate shop equipment including drill presses, lathes, mills, and surface grinders
- π Use hand tools, power tools, machine tools, and precision measuring instruments
- π€ Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Suppliers to address quality concerns
- π Perform tooling changeovers and spot tooling for proper metal fit
- π₯ TIG / MIG welding on tool steels
- πͺ Hand-finish flat and contoured die surfaces using grinders, files, profilers, and stones
- π§Ή Support and maintain 5S standards across all work areas
π§ Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- ποΈ Strong understanding of die work and stamping operations
- π Knowledge of shop math and trigonometry for machine setup and accuracy checks
- π Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision
- π€ Works independently and thrives in a team environment
- πͺ Self-motivated with strong work ethic and positive attitude
- β±οΈ Willing and able to work flexible schedules, overtime, and weekends
- π§° Owns basic measuring and inspection tools
π Physical Demands
- πΆ 80% standing and walking
- π§ 20% stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing
- ποΈ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
π Education & Experience
- π High School Diploma or GED required
- π Associateβs Degree in Machine Tool Technology preferred
- π§βπ Minimum 3 years of production manufacturing experience and/or completion of a Tool & Die Apprenticeship
- π₯ TIG / MIG welding experience preferred
