I.                    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, performs, and coordinates process development for existing and new injection tooling in concert with Scientific Molding (decoupled), as well as required secondary operations.
  • Complete a thorough evaluation of the injection tooling function and coordinate tooling modifications with the project engineer or appropriate departments.
  • Complete a thorough evaluation of secondary operations. Coordinate modifications with appropriate personnel/departments.
  • Provide training and technical support to the molding technical staff on all shifts and build a scientific molding culture.
  • Provide the engineering team with injection mold processing information and analysis tools.
  • Actively participate in continual improvement, corrective action, and customer satisfaction.
  • Attend design meetings as part of the AQP process and provide insight and expertise in regard to the tool capability and part handling.
  • Develop processes for assembly, injection molds, and various materials.
  • Oversee daily troubleshooting of manufacturing problems.
  • Work with design of experiments (DOE/statistical analysis) to optimize process parameters/controls.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for the purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates fixtures according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Customer interface, internal and external, in concert with each project.
  • Travel to customers for project and schedule reviews when necessary.
  • Ensure projects meet cost targets and quality requirements, as well as train personnel per established process packages, secondary operations, and material.
  • Hands-on operation experience with hydraulic and electrical machines, co-injection molding, multi-cavity hot runner molds, vertical/horizontal insert molding, demolding robots, as well as assembly and decorative operations for plastics.
  • Ensures all safety procedures are strictly adhered to, including that “lockout and tagout” is strictly enforced and disciplined.
  • Maintains a neat, safe, and clean environment at all times and strictly enforces this.
  • Provides leadership, training, and direction to all the process techs. “““`
  • Help support building a strong team that is cross-functional across all departments.

  • Ensures all molds are running to the master setupand that any changes are documented to ensure all processing is maintained to our ISO procedures and ensure this is strictly enforced.
  • Ensures proper storage and preservation of all molds and manages to ensure all molds are stored in their proper location.
  • Assesses and enhances equipment capabilities.
  • Reduces processing costs through creative engineering and data-driven proactive procedures.
  • Troubleshoots and engineers solutions to process, tool, and machine problems.
  • Ensures established process parameters surpass company operating efficiency standards. Accurately and systematically records data used to analyze set-ups, changeovers, and processes.
  • Engineers solutions to consistently run machines at cycle times.
  • Interacts with tooling vendors, equipment manufacturers, internal quality personnel, and customers to drive established goals and objectives.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings to facilitate a comprehensive knowledge of the customer part requirement.
  • Must be able to establish a robust process to achieve customer-directed print and quality specifications.
  • Participates in tool shoots and qualifies tools for our use.
  • Must be available to provide direction and support when there are processing and/or tooling issues on the off-shifts and weekends that require a process engineer.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

II.                  SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide training to internal technical resources to build a scientific molding culture.

  • EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college (engineering discipline preferred) or technical school. Must have a minimum of 8 – 10 years related experience in injection molding or an equivalent combination of education and experience. RJG Master Molder I Certification or equivalent preferred.

 

Knowledge of robotics, automation, equipment, and processes. Comprehensive and demonstrated knowledge of SPC, DOE, geometric tolerancing, and blueprint reading. Strong communication (verbal

and written), teamwork, and organizational skills. Ability to identify problems and develop and implement actions to resolve them. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Work Environment—indoors in a plastic manufacturing factory.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
