The Executive Director is responsible for managing and directing the operations and administrative activities of the Chamber of Commerce to further organizational goals, promote
programs and philosophies as determined by the membership, and approved by the Board of Directors. To represent the Chamber for the betterment of the Lebanon and Marion County.
The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Directors and reports directly to the President and Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for the continued support and promotion of positive relations between the Chamber, local businesses and government agencies.
Other responsibilities include: Organizing and Promoting Chamber programs including but not limited to Marion County Country Ham Days, motivating and organizing volunteers, personnel/human resources, income and expenditures, budgets, training and supervision of staff (if applicable), interpretation and implementation of Chamber’s policies and procedures, service to membership and strategic planning.
1. Membership The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring necessary income for the operations of the Chamber and is also responsible for retention and growth, responsible for service while ensuring necessary income for operations.
2. Programs of Work
The Executive Director is responsible for the identification of Chamber and community needs and for the preparation of a program of work designed to meet those needs. This
involves the constant evaluation of the program, with recommendations for changes as needed, and a system of measuring progress toward attainment of program and community goals.
3. Chamber Structure and Procedures
The Executive Director must be constantly attentive to the internal structure of the Chamber to ensure that the organization is effectively geared to function with maximum efficiency in the anticipation, identification and solution of Chamber/community needs. The Executive Director will recommend to the Board any changes in structure and procedure as needed.
Through the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for developing the Chamber budget and related budget to program goals. As approved by the Board, the Executive Director is responsible for all expenditures within the framework of the budget. The Executive Director will seek maximum staff (if applicable) efficiency in all financial procedures and shall also be responsible for purchasing supplies and equipment through budget allocations.
5. Interpretation of Policy
The Executive Director will ensure that Chamber policy, as established by the Board, is properly recorded in minutes, and will assist the Chamber with interpretation of policy in relation to any given question or program. The Executive Director will assist the Chair in preparation of statements of Chamber position on public issues.
6. Strategic Planning
Under a constantly evolving Board of Directors and annual change in officers, the Executive Director is responsible for maintaining continuity and consistency in
programming. Based on proper research of community needs, the Executive Director must anticipate emerging needs and recommend Chamber and community programs to address such needs.
7. Examples of work:
Membership retention and recruitment of new members
Organize, attend, and engage in all Chamber events.
Awards Banquet, Marion County Country Ham Days, etc.
Community Relations- Serve as the face of the organization in the
community, region, and state. Attend Ribbon cuttings, speaking
engagements, regional and state functions.
Marketing- produce, update and maintain annual publications such as
membership directory, newsletter, website, and other marketing materials.
Along with the Board of Directors – facilitate Leadership Lebanon Program.
Responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, monthly financial
reports, bank accounts, budget preparations and all Chamber records
College degree with a preferred emphasis in marketing, public relations, or business and a minimum of 3 years related work experience preferred.
A qualified candidate will possess a knowledge of Marion county, and will have the ability to establish and foster positive relationships between Lebanon and Marion county.
